GAWDA Pittsburgh 2017 Regional Meeting at Seven Springs

Jun. 28, 2017

This year's Annual Pittsburgh Area Regional Meeting was held June 12th through June 14th at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. The event was again put together by Abydee Butler Moore of Butler Gas Products.

The event officially kicked off on Monday the 12th at the Mountain BBQ at The Foggy Goggle. This dinner gives the members in attendance a chance to network with regional distributors, factory reps, and others from the industry.

On the morning of Tuesday the 13th, attending members were provided a catered breakfast and another chance to network before the Business Session speakers stepped up to the podium. Once everyone was seated, Jeff Kearns, owner of Gas & Supply, spoke about the need for continuous improvement and employee training.

The second speaker of the morning was Jason Kirby, Vice-President of Oxarc Inc. Jason's talk was titled “Avoiding the Brain Drain”. He spoke at length about hiring from within the company, the way in which managers find talent in the company, and Oxarc's commitment to employees by paying for college courses and educating their employees.

Lastly, a panel discussion was held. Abydee Butler Moore of Butler Gas moderated the panel, which consisted of Howard Mackay of West Penn Laco, Frank Kasnick, President and CEO of IWDC, Allison Earlbeck of Earlbeck Gases, and Will Roberts of Roberts Oxygen. Abydee moved around the ballroom taking questions from those in attendance, and each of the panelists were able to respond. The meeting ended with rousing applause all around.

The day ended with a golf scramble and a reception hosted by Economy Welding at The Mountain Club. Like every year, this year's GAWDA Pittsburgh Area Regional Meeting was a great success, and we at Bug-O are thankful for the opportunity to attend. We look forward to another great conference in 2018.
