Bug-O Partners with Local Steamfitters

Dec. 30, 2016

Bug-O is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Western Pennsylvania Steamfitters Local 449.

In December 2015, ground was broken on a new $20 million, 75,000 square foot training center. After almost a year of construction, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf attended the ribbon cutting, along with Steamfitters members, members of the press, and manufacturers from around the country. This new training center will consolidate local unions in Pittsburgh and Erie Pennsylvania into one location halfway between both cities. It is now the primary training center for the 2,600 members of 449 who live within the 15 counties of Western Pennsylvania.

In the coming years, demand for welders in the natural gas industry is expected to increase. In order to put out the best skilled welders, the new school will include 66 welding booths, house themed labs and classrooms that will hold up to 30 students. The weld shop will also include a full service cutting and destructive testing lab.

These new journeymen and apprentices will learn many techniques associated with the pipe fitting industry, including MIG welding, TIG welding, orbital, uphill, and downhill. To help these students learn new techniques and approaches to pipe welding, Bug-O has provided several pieces of equipment to the new facility. The students will have access to our Modular Drive System, the new Go-Fer IV, our new PCC-1 Coupon Cutter, and the Piper-Bug.  Our partnership also includes a new off-site office as well as the Bug-O training area.

We are happy to help train the next generation of pipe welders and future leaders of the industry. Bug-O is making an investment in the members of Local 449, and we are investing in the future of our region.
