GAWDA 2015 Annual Meeting

Oct. 16, 2015

As the Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA) celebrates 70 years of service, the active members descended on Scottsdale, AZ to meet, celebrate and commemorate quality service at this year’s National Convention. Since 1945 the members, who are mostly made up of family owned independent distributors, have been serving the welding community by providing high quality gas and welding supplies to different industries across the United States. Every year, the annual convention is held in a fair climate city to allow many presidents and employees of the different companies to meet and discuss the future of the group. Company presidents and employees also attend the contact booth program which brings different vendors from cylinder manufacturers, welding wire houses and welding mechanization companies to the area to meet face-to-face with the distributors. There they present and discuss their different products. This year, BUG-O Systems had two of its employees in attendance. Both Dana Nance, Independent Manufacturer’s Rep in the Arizona Area, and Brad Mutschler, BUG-O’s Application Engineer, were in attendance for the General Session Meetings and Contact Booth Program. At this program, Bug-O showcased the NEW GO-FER IV and the KBUG-1200 which are two very popular distributor products, along with materials on their extensive product line.

This year’s convention kicked off on Sunday, October 11th at The Phoenician Golf Resort with over 300 people in attendance. Monday morning started the general session meetings to discuss the association and where they’d like to move forward in the future. Following next was an evening meeting for the President’s Welcome Reception to allow all those in attendance to catch-up from the last time they had met and to network with fellow members of the industry. The second day welcomed members to beautiful weather and a networking breakfast on the east lawn of the resort with the view of Camelback Mountain in the background before heading into meetings and then closing with the contact booth program. At the conclusion of the daily meetings, the members were given the time from 2:00pm-5:30pm to walk through the grand ballroom of the resort and meet with different vendors and discuss their projects as well as converse over happenings of the day and to catch up with those they’ve known and done business with for years. For those who chose to stay over, the fourth day was the ever anticipated golf tournament which was held on the AAA Five-Diamond Golf Resort. As the distributors round out 2015 and 70 years of service, they look forward to hosting regional meetings in 2016 to further their relationship with vendors and remain strong and independent companies in the welding industry and look forward to another annual meeting to put into the books.
